Great news!!! I cleared OBIEE 11g certification

This past Friday, I cleared OBIEE 11g certification (scored 86%). I was relieved at last. Well, as expected exam was not straight forward, and requires practical experience and good knowledge base of concepts including data warehousing concepts.

Don't be surprised, as there are non scoring questions in the exam, which Oracle specifies before the exam begins. So you may feel you have answered minimum passing questions correctly, yet, overall score may be less. In terms of time allowed, I felt there was plenty of time to attempt all questions, in fact I was done with the exam in under 75 min (out of 120 mins) which includes reviewing questions I marked for later.

My advise to any applicant would be to study basic concepts thoroughly, and read all 11g documents (installation, configuration, RPD and users guide etc).. pretty much everything, unless of course you are lucky enough to be sponsored by your employer for instructor led training meant for certification.

In the results, Oracle specified topic, where you incorrectly answered, so that we can go and pick up those topics later.

Hope this helps.. Good luck.

Update: For anyone interested in the link to Oracle's certification page or to knowing more about complementary Oracle certifications can look at my following blog post about certification paths:

  2. Congrats on passing ur exam, was it 1Z0-591 - Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite 11g Essentials that you took?

Now if it was 1Z0-591 will you say that the exam is more based on the repository or split through repository & Analysis & Dashboards ?

Also do you have the Repository for SupplierSales and the database dump???

could you please email them to me chuose@gmail.com

    1. Thank you. Exam has questions from all areas, including data warehousing concepts. Now some questions will not earn score, but we dont know which questions are scoring and which are there just for the sake of it.

Sorry, I dont have SupplierSales repository.

    1. I took two weeks. But that timeframe could be misleading, remember I also have 10 years of experience :)

  6. Hi Arun,

Is this certification available for everybody or only for Oracle Partners? Are you an Oracle partner?

    1. It is available to everyone. However as a partner you can get discount on exam fees. Without the discount full exam fees is US $195.

I have been learning the works of Ralph Kimbball and Stephen Few for the past several months now which is the base for OBIEE. 8. Hi Arun,

Kudos for passing the certification and I'm sure this is just the start. Your posts are very helpful for anyone about to fledge with OBIEE certification and hence, my post.

I'm in the same boat as user "oraclr" (post right above) and wanted to know about some good reads on OBIEE preparation for getting certified. Hope you get a chance to reply. Could you be more specific about the Ralph Kimball book(since he's authored quite a few) and guide me better about Stephen Few's work(if you know the name of the book)?. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time.

  14. Hi,
I m planning to learn and do certification on OBIEE. Whether we need previous work experience in clearing the exam or self study might help?

    1. Previous experience is recommended, although not mandatory. Without experience, it will be difficult to clear in my opinion.

  15. Hi Arun,

I was wondering if it is mandatory to take Oracle approved training to qualify to sit for an exam. Could one be qualified to take the exam after self study or by purchasing the self paced DVD training from Oracle? Any insight to this would be helpful.
